Empty space ratio
The share of a carton’s total volume not occupied by the product; important for shipping cost and regulation.
The higher the empty space ratio (also called void space ratio), the more fill and shipping volume are needed. The EU packaging regulation aims to limit the empty space ratio in e-commerce cartons; a box sized to the product reduces it.
